There may not be a Grand Prix this weekend, but that doesn’t mean everything is quiet in the world of F1 as the manoeuvering and deals for next year continue.
Renault have confirmed that they will be supplying Red Bull with engines for 2007 and 2008, although no announcement has been made as to which of the two Red Bull owned teams, Red Bull Racing or Scuderia Torro Rosso, will get the French power plants.
Recently crowned GP2 champion, young British hot-shot, Lewis Hamilton has said he would like the chance to be racing a F1 McLaren alongside Fernado Alonso next year rather than a testing role. Personally I hope that Ron Dennis takes the risk and puts him on the grid.
And talking of GP2, it seems series runner-up Nelson Piquet Jr. will be in a F1 car as soon as next week when he will start his testing role for Renault at the upcoming group test sessions to be held at Silverstone in the UK.
Meanwhile it looks likely that GP2 racer, Michael Ammermuller, (who I must admit I wasn’t too impressed with) may be set to take over the Test Driver role at Red Bull Racing for the final three GPs of the season in the light of current test driver Robert Doornbos’s promotion to the race seat followin the deaprture of Christian Klien.
It seems that following last weekend’s strange descision by the race stewards at the Italian GP to penalize Fernado Alonso for blocking in qualifying (when the two cars involved never got closer than 100 yards) the FIA has annouced procedural changes to ensure more consistent interpretations of the rules.
